Waxing Hair Removal

July 10th, 2009    Subscribe To Our Feed

Julia Roberts caused some scandal a few years back when she was seen in public with unshaved underarms, something that was until then considered social suicide. Today’s women are expected to magically vanish all traces of hair on any part of the body that society thinks it’s unacceptable to be seen on. For men hair on the back is looked down upon as unwanted. Because of the decrease in popularity attached to those unforunate beings seen in their naturally hairy state, everyone’s rushing to remove hair, either through waxing hair removal, or other methods.

Waxing can be done in two ways. It can be either cold wax or hot wax. The wax used for waxing hair removal is made at home using honey, lime and sugar, and this concoction can be used as either hot wax or cold wax. If preparing the mixture doesn’t appeal to you, you can also get it at a store. Waxing hair removal is considered a generally better method to remove all that excessive hair, as in waxing hair removal you pull out the hair from its roots itself.Because of this, waxing hair removal lasts longer, with hair taking more time to grow and doesn’t have to be repeated quite as frequently as shaving does. Also, because waxing hair removal kits can be found in stores in plenty, it is easy to access them and use them. Cold wax is not as painful as hot wax, and it can be used to remove facial hair, while hot wax is considered more effective than cold wax but cannot be used on the face or other sensitive areas for the reason that it may cause burning or stinging. Waxing hair removal is more painful than other methods as it uses force to remove the wax off your arms or legs, and so not many prefer this option to shaving. It can also be time consuming when compared to shaving and if you cannot do it at home you may have to visit a beauty salon to get it done, which could be quite costly. In the long term it is said that skin also gets clearer and dark spots on areas like knees and elbows may reduce because of the wax.

If you think waxing hair removal is what you need, don’t hesitate, the quicker you pull, the less it hurts.

Is Channel 4’s ‘Extreme Male Beauty’ a sign of things to come?

June 18th, 2009    Subscribe To Our Feed

‘Extreme Male Beauty’ is the latest in a long line of TV shows that see people put through a gruelling series of challenges and tasks in a bid to prove that anyone can achieve the perfect body. These shows have been popular for a while and are part of an increasing obsession with physical appearance and the need to look good at any cost. What makes ‘Extreme Male Beauty’ different from other shows, if the title hasn’t given it away already, is that this time round it’s men and not women who are being put through their paces in the pursuit of perfection.

The beauty industry has long been notorious for its powers of persuasion and ability to make people feel inadequate. With so many stunning celebrities around giving us an example of how we are supposed to look, it can be easy to get weighed down by insecurities. We want to believe that if we use the products we see advertised every day, we too could achieve the perfect supermodel skin and figure. Stereotypically women are more likely to suffer from this type of image issues, but recently more and more men are beginning to worry about thier appearance and the male beauty industry is booming.

Traditionally, most men would never have admitted to having a beauty routine and men’s deodorants, a quick shave and a bit of aftershave was as far as they would go. But with so many well-groomed male celebrities like David Beckham and Daniel Craig to lead the way, things are changing fast. From skincare to hair styling, moisturisers to men’s hair removal, there is no end to the range of men’s beauty products available, and men are lapping it up. And with so many pampering products, styling tools and men’s fragrances available, men are looking better than ever, and long may it last!

Home Electrolysis: Should You Take the Chance?

June 13th, 2009    Subscribe To Our Feed

If you have unwanted body or facial hair it will require some form of hair removal like plucking, shaving, laser, waxing or electrolysis.  This mini-guide will discuss home electrolysis and whether it is worth taking the chance to do it yourself.  Personally, I would not recommend it but when you want a longer lasting hair removal method and do not have access to a professional or you cannot afford the procedure then it is your choice.  Electrolysis done by a trained professional is the process of electrical current being applied to the hair follicle via a tiny needle to remove individual hairs and kill the root to halt further hair growth.  It is not typical for the average consumer to have access to the professional equipment required for this procedure thus it is not recommended.

You can get home electrolysis kits online or in a retail beauty supply store but these do not provide the same professional results as in a salon.  The home kits do not use a needle and do not enter the hair follicle as in the professional treatment so the results are not likely to be permanent.  If you do have access to professional equipment but do not know how to use it you are putting yourself at risk for infection or permanent skin damage if you try it.  The choice to take the chance on do-it-yourself home electrolysis is up to you but you should be aware of the consequences if you plan to try this on your own.

Whether you use your own home kit or professional electrolysis equipment you need to make sure that all your instruments are well sterilized before using it.  You may also want to invest in a topical pain killer before you do this yourself as you may as well expect this to hurt when you try home electrolysis. You will probably get inferior results to a electrolysis professional if you do it yourself and you will also be risking skin damage or infection.  You will most likely not get permanent results since you are not a trained electrolysis professional whether you use professional equipment or a home kit.If you choose to use home electrolysis and remove your hair yourself you will also need to prepare your skin by exfoliating and cleaning the areas where you will remove the hair.Make sure to take every possible precaution to be safe and keep your electrolysis equipment clean and sterilized.

Comparing Electrolysis versus Laser Hair Removal

June 12th, 2009    Subscribe To Our Feed

Electrolysis has been used for hair removal for over 100 years and has been deemed safe and effective by the FDA along with this department's approval. Laser hair removal is newer than electrolysis and has not yet been perfected for all hair types. In this article you will get to see a side-by-side comparison of electrolysis vs laser hair removal for your consideration and learning. After you read the contents of this mini-guide you will be more informed about these procedures and be able to make an informed decision on this subject.

When you are looking at electrolysis vs laser hair removal you should know that both are safe and effective at removing unwanted hair from the any part of the body. The safety and effectiveness of either of these procedures is determined by the practitioner’s ability, the proper execution and equipment and each individual. All hair removal methods produce different results between different people.

First let's look at electrolysis vs laser hair removal for hair types. Electrolysis can be performed on any hair type for any part of the body needed. Laser hair removal is still in the early stages and produces best results for dark hair on light skin due to the fact that the laser targets melanin which is pigment found in darker hair and skin. This makes laser hair removal limited to darker haired people with lighter skin tones. If you have a darker skin you wouldn't want to take the chance of laser hair removal, as it would target the melanin in the skin and can cause permanent skin damage. This is the biggest drawback to current laser hair removal technology but research and development is being done on this subject.

Here are some other factors to consider for electrolysis vs laser hair removal. More differences between the two methods are the pain factor, the time factor and the money factor.

Overall, electrolysis is the preferred method for hair removal for anyone whereas laser hair removal has limits and is much more costly to have done.
